The Jersey City Redevelopment Agency is currently reviewing a proposed development that could bring approximately 3,000 homes to a site near the Hackensack River, as reported by YIMBY. The development, called West Side Crossing and being developed by Bushburg Properties, is set to be built in three phases, with coordination from the extension of the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail system.
The first phase of the project will feature a 30-story building at the intersection of Claremont Avenue and Water Street, with 473 residences, 11,600 square feet of ground-floor retail space, and parking space for 344 vehicles. A 4,600-square-foot park will also be included at the base of the building.
In the second phase of the West Side Crossing development, two towers will be built above a shared podium at Grant Avenue and Water, standing 55 and 39 stories tall, respectively. In total, these buildings will provide 1,567 homes above a podium that will contain 1,118 parking spaces and 109,000 square feet of retail space. Additionally, nearly 21,000 square feet of new public open space will be created below the planned light rail viaduct.
The final phase of the West Side Crossing project will consist of a 56-story tower situated between Greenwich Drive and Tribeca Avenue, featuring 1,039 residential units, 7,000 square feet of retail space, and parking for 529 vehicles. The project is also planned to include additional open space below the rail viaduct. The development is being designed by Marchetto Higgins Stieve, although no timeline has been announced for its completion.
If approved, West Side Crossing would be a major addition to Jersey City’s high-rise landscape, adding thousands of new homes and retail spaces, as well as new public spaces to the area.
